'Time and again the company has shown courage in taking advantage of opportunities that have arisen.'
Calm, meticulous, friendly, experienced.
I started work as soon as I finished my junior general secondary education (MAVO) diploma and have undertaken various types of jobs including working at sea for a while. I was employed as dockhand in Vlissingen harbour in 1987 and started working at Kloosterboer in 1990.
My story at Kloosterboer: I work at the 25 metre high fruit terminal. I operate the crane that transports fruit in containers or on pallets. Working as a Crane Operator is not for everyone but it is for me! I honestly love going to work every day. I work outside and have a fantastic view of our yard which is a real pleasure, especially in the summer when it’s sunny. Job turnover is very low at Kloosterboer so I know my colleagues almost better than I do my own wife!
Six years ago, I put myself forward as a workers' representative in Vlissingen and I’m now the chairperson as well as being a confidential advisor within the company. Management involves us directly in the company’s development so the employee representative body offers true added value. It’s great to be able to contribute in this way. I have every confidence in Kloosterboer’s future. Time and again the company has shown courage in taking advantage of opportunities that have arisen. After all these years I am still delighted to be part of this company.
